Hartwood
winery opened in the spring of 1989 in the rural community of
Hartwood, Virginia. Hartwood is an area long known for its heavy deer
population. Hart is the Old English word for deer, and according to
local legend is the basis for the area's name; and in turn the
winery's logo.
Owner
JIM LIVINGSTON, his wife BEVERLY and their partner DAVE
BARBER, are the nucleus of
Hartwood Winery. Jim and Beverly make the wines and manage the
vineyard; while Dave, a wine educator, lends his expertise to
tasting, special functions and Winemaker's Dinners. Jim has been
involved with Virginia wine since 1975. He established, with the help
of family and friends, the first Stafford County commercial vineyard
in 1981 and farm winery in 1989.

Winery is pleased to announce that Jennifer Leibowitz will be

the grapes, to bottling the wine. The goal is for her to learn
and understand the entire business from start to finish.
Jennifer received degrees in Business Administration and Dance from
Mary Washington College. She is also a member of Dance Matrix,
a local dance troupe centered in Fredericksburg. Jennifer as
