Hartwood Winery is happy to announce the release of our new Varietal Series of labels. The first wines released in this series were Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc at our Harvest Celebration on October 27, at the winery.  The Viognier was released at our Holiday Celebration November 17 and 18.  Shortly, others will join the series of wines. The label for each of these new wines will feature unique colorings but will be tied together by a similar design.

The Varietal Series of labels joins Hartwood’s other two series of labels. The original Rappahannock Series of wines was released in 1989 when Hartwood Winery first opened. Most of these labels feature our famous logo in a block-cut design. This series of labels honors the Rappahannock River which was so important in the development of Fredericksburg as a city.

Hartwood’s Artist Series of labels was first released with the 1993 vintage of wines. This series originally contained labels featuring three acrylic paintings and one pen and ink sketch by Robyn Ryan. “Harvest Run”, “French Dawn”, “Winter Lord”, and “Moving Out” still are used on wines today, primarily made from Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and blends of other vinifera grapes. In 1995, the Hartwood Stag, painted by Karin Gnegy, was added to this series and still graces our Claret label. All of these original paintings can be viewed at the winery.

2005 Chardonnay...A dry wine with soft fruitiness, reminiscent or ripe apples and pears; enhanced by the eight months spent in oak -- both French and American. These rich complex flavors perfectly complement cream sauces and many foods.

Hartwood Station White -- a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier and Rkatsiteli with no oak.  Floral aromas lead into rich fruity flavors with some lingering citrus, making this wine perfect by itself or matching it with fish, fowl, or pork.

Viognier...Perfumy honeysuckle aromas lead into flavors reminiscent of light tropical fruits, with hints of rose petals.  Explosive fruitiness lingers and will compiment most chicken or pork dishes.

Sauvignon Blanc...envokes the essence of new hay with soft creamy limes and hints of toasted vanillin.  A great match for scallops or other simply prepared seafood.

Rappahannock Rose...This traditional styled rose' wine is dry and made from a blend of Chambourcin and small amount of Seyval Blanc. Soft cherry-like flavors balanced by hints of citrus allow this wine to be enjoyed as an apéritif or with light foods.

Rappahannock White...A medium dry wine that is a bend of Seyval Blanc and Vidal Blanc. Matches well with all types of food; great on a picnic, or just sipping while relaxing on the patio, porch or deck.

Deweese White...A semi-sweet wine with robust melon and tropical fruit flavors. A marvelous match for curries or spicy foods. Made from Vidal Blanc and honors the first commercial vineyard in Stafford County.

Rappahannock Red...A light, fruity, blended red wine in the Beaujolais style. Aged completely in stainless steel. A perfect match with barbecued or grilled foods, tomato based pastas, and even chocolate! Can be served chilled which will enhance the natural fruitiness of the wine.

Claret...Our Claret is dominantly Cabernet Sauvignon from a younger vineyard that is enhanced by six months of aging in American oak barrels. A little Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc are blended together to round out the palate.

Cabernet Franc...Aromas of black cherry with hints of chocolate evolve into bright cherry flavors with soft toasty oakiness, with lingering hints of green tobacco and spiciness.
